After a leaked dealer document hit the web-o-sphere on Wednesday night revealing the MSRP of the 2013 FR-S, Scion today came out with an official announcement confirming both pricing and specifications. There will only be one trim level for the FR-S with buyers having the option of a six-speed manual gearbox model that starts at $24,200 (€18,300) or a 6-speed automatic transmission model with paddle shifters and an asking price of $25,300 (€19,200).
If you add a $730 destination and handling fee (*), prices rise to $24,930 and $26,030 for the manual and automatic models respectively. Sales will begin this spring.
"Scion's goal was to create an affordable sports car that true driving enthusiasts could enjoy," said Jack Hollis, Scion vice president.
"We accomplished that goal with the FR-S starting under $25,000…a total home run! Add in Scion's complimentary Scion Service Boost, our no-haggle no-hassle Pure Price, and Scion's network of about 1,000 dealers, and the FR-S is a grand slam," he added.
The rear-wheel drive FR-S is powered by a 2.0-liter, naturally aspirated flat four engine sourced from Subaru but tweaked by Toyota that delivers 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of peak torque.
In the U.S., buyers will be able to choose from seven colors named Raven, Asphalt, Hot Lava, Argento, Ultramarine, Firestorm and Whiteout.
Among other standard features, the 2+2 seater FR-S gets a leather-trimmed steering wheel with both tilt and telescopic adjustment, sport front seats, FR-S badged floor mats, an eight-speaker AM/FM/CD/USB 300-watt Pioneer audio system and Bluetooth connectivity.
Safety features include six airbags, Traction Control (TRAC), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Brake Assist (BA), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Smart Stop Technology (SST).
