2014 Range Rover Sport (L494) officially revealed!

And here you have it, the 2014 Range Rover Sport (codenamed L494). One badly kept secret has gotten its well deserved official presentation ahead of the New York International Auto Show. Land Rover took things to another level by reducing the weight of the car and by making it even more powerful and at the same time more fuel efficient.

The exterior, like i said before, is a mix between the recently introduced Range Rover with the Evoque. And it works well, it looks different enough from the other two models, but it still has an aggressive and sporty look, that now offers a third row of seats.

Land Rover calls the new Range Rover Sport "the fastest, most agile and responsive Land Rover ever". And it is since the figures given by the British company confirm that.

From launch, the new Range Rover Sport will be available with four engines. Two supercharged petrol engines, a 5.0liter V8 with 510PS and the new 3.0liter V6 that produces 340PS, and two diesel engines, a 3.0liter TDV6 with 258PS and the SDV6 with a power output of 292PS. Later in the year a new diesel 4.4 liter SDV8 that puts out 339PS will expand the engine choices, and in 2014 there will be a hybrid version.

All engines are only available with the electronically controlled ZF 8HP70 8-speed automatic gearbox. The most powerful Range Rover Sport will accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in around 5 seconds, while fuel consumption is cut by up to 24% and CO2 emissions start as low as 194 grams per km.

The reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions is achieve thanks to the more efficient engines, the Stop/Start system, but specially thanks to the reduction of 500kg (1100lb) in the overall weight of the car due to the use of aluminum in the body structure, which is 39% lighter than the previous model.

You will still be able to go off-road, but Land Rover dramatically improved on-road driving dynamics of the seven-seat SUV. Changes have been made to the fifth generation air suspension, Terrain Response® 2 system and the two full-time 4WD systems that you can choose from.

The interior remains as luxurious as any other Range Rover. Top quality materials, elegant lines and a more sportier look is what you can expect from the new RR Sport.

Seems the 2014 Range Rover Sport was caught naked

Here you have the first clear images of the upcoming Range Rover Sport. A vehicle that Land Rover says it will be the "fastest, most responsive and agile vehicle to date" coming from the British brand. We already knew it would be introduced one day before the the New York International Auto Show but i wasn't expecting it to show up in the web so soon.

Like i reported earlier, the new Range Rover Sport will be lighter several hundred kilograms and is also more powerful. Check the video teaser here. The appearance of this sporty SUV is very similar to the Evoque, which is cool i guess.

2014 Range Rover Sport gets teased by Land Rover with a video

Land Rover has just announced that the next-generation all-new Range Rover Sport (codenamed L494), the third model from the British company to be released in just two years, will have its premiere in the streets of New York one day before the New York International Auto Show, that starts on March 27.

For now we only know that it will be "Land Rover's fastest, most responsive and agile vehicle to date" and since New York saw more Range Rover Sports sold than any other metropolitan area in the world, it makes sense to have its premiere there.

The new RR Sport benefits from a new platform that is lighter several hundred kilograms, meaning that Land Rover could be right and this will indeed be the agile vehicle made by the British car maker. Supposedly the engine will be more powerful, so i can't wait to find out what we will see on the 26th March. Don't miss the presentation here!

Land Rover at 2013 Geneva Auto Show

Saturday, 16 February 2013

Range Rover Sport II (code named L494) loses some camouflage. Spied again.

And every time it loses a little bit of camouflage it looks even more like the Evoque. As you can see from the pictures the front bumper is clearly inspired by the one in the Evoque and so are the taillights but that isn't a bad thing, the Evoque is a good looking vehicle.

One of the most important things about the new Range Rover Sport is the weight loss due to the new platform, and together with the improved V6 and V8 both diesel and gasoline engines that will have more power, this will be a mean machine with a lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Not all engines will be available at start but all of them will come with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

2014 Range Rover Sport spied again in England!

Two weeks ago you saw here pictures of the upcoming Range Rover Sport, now we have some more images of the car while testing in England. This time we get to see the back a little better.

It has a rather large rear spoiler and a lower roof line in comparison with the "normal" Range Rover. In the front we are able to see that the front bumper is very similar to the one in the Evoque. We might even see the presentation in just a few weeks, so stay tuned.

Short News: Land Rover Freelander 3 spied testing in England

The next generation of the Land Rover Freelander is already on the road and was caught testing somewhere in England, although with plenty of camouflage, preventing us from having a good idea of the appearance of the car.

But what we know is that it will follow the design used first in the Evoque and then in its big brother, the Range Rover. Besides that it will use the LR-MS platform of the Evoque, but longer to be slotted better between the Evoque and the Range Rover.

The new Freelander, expected to debut in 2014 with sales starting in 2015, will offer an optional third row seat, therefore will have room for 7 people.

Short News: 2014 Range Rover Sport spied again

Here are some more pictures of the still camouflaged Range Rover Sport, code-named L405. We already know the new Range Rover, but the sport version looks lower and wider, it also has LED lights in the back and redesigned bumpers.

About the engines, they should be the same ones used in the current version with some changes to allow for betters performances and greater fuel savings. The Sport version will also benefit from a significant reduction in weight. Presentation will take place earlier next year.

Is this the Chinese version of the new Land Rover Defender, based on the DC100 concept? No, just a copy from BAIC

Seems someone in China, in particular in BAIC, really liked the DC100 Concept which was released a few months ago by Land Rover and decided they should do something similar.

This model will be part of the rebirth of the Zhan Qi class of SUVs which were very popular many years ago, thanks to its robustness and cheap price. How about the price? and the engine? Dimensions? I have no idea.

Jaguar and Land Rover will share platforms

Both companies are looking for ways to reduce the number of platforms they use and to achieve that objective they will share two or three platforms and it will serve 70 or 80% of the vehicles sold.

Land Rover currently uses four different platforms, Defender, Freelander/Evoque, Discovery/Range Rover Sport and Range Rover, while Jaguar uses three, XF, XK, XJ.

Jaguar and Land Rover are looking at VW's MQB platform for an example but Jaguar’s global brand director, Adrian Hallmark said: “it won’t happen overnight. VW’s MQB platform will take seven years to roll out across the models it will underpin”. Both brands already share many different components, like the infotainment system, seats and drive-trains.
