The Alfa Romeo Giulietta has become more affordable for European buyers as the Italian automaker has quietly introduced a new base engine for the subcompact model, which will soon be available for order throughout the continent.Taking the place of the 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol with 118hp (120PS) as the new entry-level option in the Giulietta's lineup is a de-tuned version of the same powerplant producing 103hp (105PS) at 5,000 rpm and 206Nm (152 lb-ft) of peak torque at 1750 rpm.
The Italian automaker most likely chose the turbocharged engine overthe Mito's 103hp (105PS) 1.4-liter naturally aspirated Multiair petrol unit because of its higher torque output (130Nm / 96 lb-ft).
In the Giulietta, the 103hp 1.4L Turbo is linked to a six-speed manual gearbox and an auto start/stop system with Alfa Romeo quoting a top speed of 185km/h (115mph) and a zero to 100km/h (62mph) sprint time of 10.6 seconds.
In terms of fuel consumption, the 103hp model returns 6.4lt/100km (36.8mpg US or 44.1mpg UK) on the combined European driving cycle with CO2 emissions of 149 g/km.
