2013 CLS 63 AMG and AMG S-Model also revealed today

Besides the E-Class, Mercedes today also unveiled photos and details of the new CLS AMG, which now also has a special version called the S-Model. Mechanically it is almost equal to the E-Class, and so are the values for acceleration, top speed, fuel consumption and emissions.

The engine is the same 5.5liter bi-turbo V8 unit from the E-Class with 410kW (557hp) and 720Nm for the normal AMG version, while in the S-Model it has 430kW (585hp) and 800Nm. The RWD Coupe version will accelerate from standstill to 100km/h (62mph) in 4.2 seconds, while the AMG 4MATIC and the AMG 4MATIC S-Model take 3.7 and 3.6 seconds, respectively. The Shooting Brake needs 0.1 seconds more.

Top speed is limited on all versions to 250km/h (156mph). The combined fuel consumption varies between 9.9 to 10.4l/100km for the Coupe and 10.1 to 10.6l/100km for the Shooting Brake, while CO2 emissions will vary between 231 to 248g/km.

Directly driving the wheels is the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission with four modes, "C" (Controlled Efficiency), "S" (Sport), "S+" (Sport plus) and "M" (Manual). The 4MATIC AWD system distributes the engine torque in a ratio of 33 to 67 percent (front/rear axle) allowing a more sporty and entertaining drive.

Besides the normal AMG version, Mercedes will provide an even more powerful version of the E-Class, the AMG S-Model which only comes with the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. For now this AMG versions are only available as an Estate and Saloon.

The 5.5liter bi-turbo V8 produces 410kW (557hp) at 5500rpm and 720Nm at 1750-5250rpm for the normal AMG version, while in the S-Model it has 430kW (585hp) at 5500rpm and 800Nm at 1750-5000rpm. This torque figures allow the RWD Saloon and the Estate to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in 4.2 seconds, but it takes 3.7 seconds (3.8 for the Estate) if you have the AWD 4MATIC system and 3.6 seconds (the Estate takes 3.7) for the S-Model.

Getting all that power to the road requires a lot from the gearbox, so Mercedes fitted the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission with four different modes to keep things smooth. The four modes – "C" (Controlled Efficiency), "S" (Sport), "S+" (Sport plus) and "M" (Manual) – offer the driver a personal set-up. In "C" mode, the ECO start/stop function is active and switches off the eight-cylinder engine when the vehicle is stopped.

The combined fuel consumption (NEDC) is one of the best in its segment, with 9.8l/100km and emissions of 230g/km for the RWD, while the 4MATIC versions varies between 10.3 and 10.5l/100km and emissions range from 242 to 246g/km.
