The Audi A3 Sedan revealed in the premiere of the Audi MediaTV channel

Meet the new member of the third generation A3 family, the new A3 Sedan (In the picture above you have the S3 Sedan). With the public presentation scheduled for the Shanghai Motor Show that will take place from April 21 to April 29 (Press day: April 20), Audi decided to show a little bit of the car on their new online channel, Audi MediaTV.

The S3 Sedan you see here is very similar to both the concept from which it was born and the rest of the A3 family, but it still looks good. It has an overall length of 4.46 meters (14.63ft) and a 2.64 meter (8.66 ft) long wheelbase, giving the car short overhangs.

The engine in this car is the four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0 liter with 300PS (221kW) and 380Nm (280lb/ft) of torque. It has an estimated fuel consumption of 6.9 liters per 100km (34.1 US mpg or 40.9 UK mpg) if you use the S-Tronic automatic transmission or 7.0 liters if you have the six-speed manual transmission (33.6 US mpg or 40.4 UK mpg).

Top speed is limited to 250km/h (155mph) and will accelerate from standstill to 100km/h (62mph) in around 4.9 seconds when using the S-Tronic or 5.3 seconds with the manual gearbox.

The A3 Sedan will be available with the 2.0liter TDI (150PS [110kW], 320Nm [236lb/ft], 0 to 100km/h [62mph] in 8.7 seconds, top speed of 220km/h [137mph], combined fuel consumption of 4.1l/100km [57.37 US mpg], CO2 emissions of 107g/km [172g/mile]), the 1.4liter TFSI (140PS [103kW], 250Nm [184lb/ft], 0 to 100km/h [62mph] in 8.4 seconds, top speed of 217km/h [135mph], combined fuel consumption of 4.7l/100km [50.05 US mpg], CO2 emissions of 109g/km [175g/mile]), and the 1.8liter TFSI (180PS [132kW], 250Nm [184lb/ft], 0 to 100km/h [62mph] in 7.3 seconds, top speed of 235km/h [146mph], combined fuel consumption of 5.6l/100km [42 US mpg], CO2 emissions of 129g/km [208g/mile]).

When equipped with the 1.4liter TFSI engine the car only weighs 1250 kg (2756lb) and a trunk with a capacity of 425 liters. Inside we ahve the same features found the the other A3 models, including the MMI Radio system with the extending screen, MMI Navigation plus with an SSD hard drive offering 64 GB of storage, a DVD drive and whole-word voice control with a high-resolution 7 inch screen, Bang & Olufsen sound system, and a choice between fabric covers, artificial leather, Milano leather, Pearl nappa leather and Alcantara.

Audi teases the new A3 sedan. Introduces the MediaTV. [Video]

Starting from March 27, Audi will have its own online channel (they have a channel in Youtube) where you will be able to follow the live broadcasts of world premieres, press conferences and other events exclusively in English. And promote the new channel managed by Audi Communications, the German company teased the upcoming A3 Sedan.

Since the channel will go live on March 27, the first thing that will be transmitted is a sneak preview of the new model. This date coincides with the start of the New York International Auto Show and the Seoul Motor Show, but nothing was said about a public presentation that is more likely to happen at the Shanghai Motor Show in April.

Audi A3 e-Tron concept coming to the Geneva Motor Show

Audi will reveal what they think will be the future of cars, calling it the " electrification of the drivetrain" and believing it will "play an important role in the strategy of the brand". Most brands now offer plug-in hybrid technology in part of their cars but most of them are slow and weak, but Audi also wants to change that.

The A3 e-Tron is equipped with a modified four cylinder 1.4 TFSI engine producing 110kW (150 hp) linked through a clutch to an electric motor that produces 75kW (102hp) which in turn is connected to a newly designed six-speed e-S tronic that transfers the power to the front wheels.

The combination of the electric motor with the petrol engine provides the car with 150kW (204hp) of system power and 350Nm (258lb/ft) of system torque, allowing for an acceleration from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in 7,6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 222km/h (138mph).

The five door model will consume on average only 1.5 liters of fuel per 100km (157 US mpg) and will emit just 35 grams per km (56.33 g/mile) of CO2. When only using electric power, the e-Tron will have a top speed of 130km/h (81mph) and a maximum range of 50km (31miles). But if you want you can drive it using just the combustion engine or in the "hybrid mode" which will have a range of 669km (416miles).

Production isn't confirmed but those are some attractive numbers.

Audi also reveals the sportier version of their hatchback, the S3 Sportback

Seems someone at Audi didn't liked the attention given the the new Mercedes A-Class AMG (A45) and thought "hey, let's release pictures and more information about our fast hatchback", too bad the S3 Sportback is less powerful and slower compared with the Mercedes.

And like the Mercedes the exterior styling package is almost the same to the S-Line version, while there are no other differences to the 3-door S3 besides the two extra doors, roof rails and different taillights.

The new S3 Sportback weighs 1.445 kilograms (3.186lb) which is 70 kilograms (154.32lb) less than the previous model, and just with the car is now faster, besides consuming less fuel and polluting less.

The improved 1.984cc four-cylinder engine in the S3 Sportback now produces 300hp (221kW) @ 5.500rpm and 380Nm (280lb/ft) available from 1.800 to 5.500rpm. You can choose between the six-speed manual transmission (0 to 100km/h in 5.5 seconds with an average fuel consumption of 7l/100 km or 33,60 US mpg) and the six-speed S tronic (0 to 100km/h in just 5 seconds and an average fuel consumption of 6.9l/100 km or 34,09 US mpg). The top speed is electronically limited at 250km/h or 155mph.

And all those 300 ponies go to the four wheels through the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system and a redesigned multi-plate clutch for a better performance in all types of weather.

But in the end it is still slower and weaker than the A45 AMG, still i am sure Audi is working on a RS3 version. Don't miss them at the Geneva Motor Show!

PS: Funny things. Audi seems to use the same background for all the pictures of the A3, and Mercedes introduced a white car with an interior red trim and stitching, while Audi has a red car with an interior white trim and stitching.

2014 Audi A3 Sedan. No mistake there. [Spy Pictures]

Our North American and Chinese friends don't like the hatchback versions, so Audi is preparing a sedan version of the A3 to help boost sales in those countries. Quattroworld spies have captured the new version in one of Audi’s Southern Europe test sites.

The car seems to be almost ready to enter production, so we might expect a presentation in the first half of 2013. In these pictures we can say it must be a S-Line version, with the larger wheels and the dual exhaust pipes. It will surely use the same engines that are used in the hatchback versions.

It does look like the concept shown last year, as you can also see below, and that is a good thing because it looked really nice.
