NY Auto Show: Shelby Powers up 2012 Mustang GT500 to an Insane 950-Horses

|

So you think that the 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500 with 650-ponies lurking under its hood is bollocks?
Then you've probably haven't heard about the street-legal Shelby 1000 and its track-only sibling, the 1000 S/C, both of which will make their world premiere at the New York International Auto Show in April.
The crew over at Shelby took a stock 2012 Mustang GT500 and made a whole lot of modifications starting with the 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine that gains among other things, new rods, crank, pistons, supercharger system, cooling and exhaust.
As a result, output is boosted to an amazing 950-horses for the street-legal 1000 and over 1,100HP for the track oriented S/C edition.
Complementing the new force under the hood is an uprated braking system with 6 pistons in front and 4 pistons in the rear, along with a revised suspension featuring new struts, sway bars and bushings.
In addition, there's a new solid driveshaft connected to a 9-inch rear end, while the car also sports some new aero parts up front and at the back.
Shelby says it will produce only a limited number of models with prices starting from $149,995 (€113,300) for the 1000 and $154,995 (€117,000) for the 1000 S/C, not including the base GT500, which means that the total cost will surpass the $200,000 (€151,000) mark.
