2014 Range Rover Sport (L494) officially revealed!

And here you have it, the 2014 Range Rover Sport (codenamed L494). One badly kept secret has gotten its well deserved official presentation ahead of the New York International Auto Show. Land Rover took things to another level by reducing the weight of the car and by making it even more powerful and at the same time more fuel efficient.

The exterior, like i said before, is a mix between the recently introduced Range Rover with the Evoque. And it works well, it looks different enough from the other two models, but it still has an aggressive and sporty look, that now offers a third row of seats.

Land Rover calls the new Range Rover Sport "the fastest, most agile and responsive Land Rover ever". And it is since the figures given by the British company confirm that.

From launch, the new Range Rover Sport will be available with four engines. Two supercharged petrol engines, a 5.0liter V8 with 510PS and the new 3.0liter V6 that produces 340PS, and two diesel engines, a 3.0liter TDV6 with 258PS and the SDV6 with a power output of 292PS. Later in the year a new diesel 4.4 liter SDV8 that puts out 339PS will expand the engine choices, and in 2014 there will be a hybrid version.

All engines are only available with the electronically controlled ZF 8HP70 8-speed automatic gearbox. The most powerful Range Rover Sport will accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in around 5 seconds, while fuel consumption is cut by up to 24% and CO2 emissions start as low as 194 grams per km.

The reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions is achieve thanks to the more efficient engines, the Stop/Start system, but specially thanks to the reduction of 500kg (1100lb) in the overall weight of the car due to the use of aluminum in the body structure, which is 39% lighter than the previous model.

You will still be able to go off-road, but Land Rover dramatically improved on-road driving dynamics of the seven-seat SUV. Changes have been made to the fifth generation air suspension, Terrain Response® 2 system and the two full-time 4WD systems that you can choose from.

The interior remains as luxurious as any other Range Rover. Top quality materials, elegant lines and a more sportier look is what you can expect from the new RR Sport.
