Last May, amidst a mountain of problems, Saabcelebrated the silver jubilee of its Convertible series that debuted as the 900 Cabrio in 1986 before the Swedes renamed the entire model lineup to 9-3 in 1998.
A year later, Saab is bankrupt and the company's Trollhättan plant idled, but if you live in the UK and are still interested in buying a brand new 9-3 Convertible, we have some good news for you.
Saab Parts UK announced today that it has successfully secured the sale of the last remaining 26 right-hand drive MY12 9-3 Convertibles, which will be available to buy through the company's national network of 87 Authorised Repairers.
The Swedish brand's UK representative said that three levels of specification are available including the SE, the Aero and the Independence Edition.
A 1.9-liter turbo diesel with 160hp or 180hp and a 2.0-liter petrol engine with 163hp or 220hp power the 9-3 Convertibles.
The 9-3 Independence Edition, which Saab's former owner Spyker had created to celebrate a year of "independence" from General Motors (and we all know how that worked out…), is offered only with the 180hp, 1.9-litre twin turbo diesel matched to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Saab noted that it originally planned to build 80 examples of the 9-3 Independence Edition for the UK market, but in total only seven right-hand drive models were imported in the country in 2011. From the last batch, only seven cars are Independent editions.
On-the-road prices for the remaining 9-3 Convertibles start from £22,750.
